Before I begin telling you the easiest and free platform to get started with blogging, I need to define the following terms:
Google says that the definition of a domain is “…names [that] are used in URLs to identify particular web pages”. The domain of this website is johnsvloggingandbloggingtutorials.com. This means that a domain is the name of a website such as
Some domains are free, and some need to be payed for depending on a couple factors that I will discuss in a future blog.
Google states that the definition of Hosting is,
“A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web”.
If a domain is the name of a website, and hosting is the service that makes the website accessible on the web, you might be wondering if both must be purchased to start your blog, right?
The answer is “not necessarily” because you can start a blog that can be hosted for FREE, but you will not be able to choose your own domain name. It’s important to consider the purpose of your blog when considering if you would like to personalize the name of your website.
Blogger is one of the easiest ways to get started with Blogging because they offer free hosting and offer you a free domain. This means that you can actually create a website, customize it the way you want, and then it will be live right away on the internet. All you need is a gmail account to get started, and get your site live right away. If you would eventually like your own, personal domain, it is definitely possible, and recommended if you would like your own website.
To get started, check out the following videos:
This video will walk you through setting up your account with blogger for free. This includes setting up your domain name for free ending with a “.blogspot.com”, choosing a template, information on purchasing a domain(if you wanted to do that). There is one more video below showing how to write your 1st post.
This next video will show you how to create your first post as well as optimize your content within the post to help with being found by search engines. Search engine optimization will be discussed in a future blog, but please ask if you have any questions on that topic. This video also explains how to add files from your computer such as pictures, videos, scheduling posts.
Labels will also be discussed in the video. Labels come up in search engines as a description of what your blog or website is about. When people are typing words into the search box, and your labels match what they type, your website might be found that way. There are multiple factors that go into this discussed in a future blog.
If you have any other questions regarding Blogger.com, please let me know in the comments, and I will make a future blog to answer any questions.
