Starting a Blog – What’s the difference between Vlogging and Blogging ?

Starting a blog – a blog is essentially a written log of events that have happened in your life, that may be valuable to you, that you want to communicate to the rest of the world or just your family.

For instance, imagine that you want to be starting a blog to write about your life history as a legacy to your kids.  You can tell stories to them in person, but what if you could document these stories through writing or Video.  This is actually possible through Vlogging and starting a Blog.  It is also possible for you to write or Video blog things, and then keep them private as well.

If Videos are more your thing, please check out my youtube page on how to get started: here

Google states that Vlogging is

“A video blog or video log, usually shortened to vlog /ˈvlɒɡ/, is a form of blog for which the medium is video, and is a form of web television. Vlog entries often combine embedded video (or a video link) with supporting text, images, and other metadata. Entries can be recorded in one take or cut into multiple parts.”

vs Blog (Google States:)

” write about (an event, situation, topic, etc.) in a blog.”

Blogging is a way that people can express themselves through writing, while Vlogging is a way for people to express themselves through video. It’s important to choose a topic that is important enough to you that you will be able to write about, and that has many different topics for you to continue to write about in the future.

How do I choose what to write about?

To answer this question, I will have to ask you a couple questions.

You have to ask yourself what is it that you truly want to get from starting your blog or vlog.  Do you want to be starting a blog to document your life?

The main question, the most difficult question is where to start.  Where do you begin documenting?

This blog is intended to give you motivation, and some recommendations for different options such as:

starting a Vlog – Vlogging Options: Youtube, Vimeo, etc

Starting a Blogging – Blogging Options:, WordPress, facebook, twitter, instagram, tumblr, reddit etc.

Future blogs will answer the questions of where to get started.

If you’re a painter, your main focus would be paintings or color patterns, and then you would be able to write a million topics about these things.

People will write or Vlog for many reasons.  Some people do it for exploring their hobby’s or passions such as giving dating advice.  Think about some of your favorite blogs and blog writers, people that have inspired you.  What captivates you about them and their blogs?

Other people write to promote a cause.  Just the other day, two girls stopped my girlfriend and myself to ask us to video them doing lunges for Sickle Cell research.  Promoting a cause or a mission may help blogger’s find their voice, and then donate their earnings to their favorite charity.

Disclaimer: once you publish a blog, anyone can access it unless you don’t publish it.

Personally, I have always been fascinated with how to get started Vlogging and Blogging online, but it’s something that does take time and consistency.  Your followers will expect you to be their new Television program.  They will expect you to write for them on a consistent basis, and if you are not writing consistently, they might be unaware you’re back to writing.

My goal is to make your lives easier to get started by helping you with the hard parts.  This blog’s goal is to create a community of folks wanting to start their own blogs, and together as a community help one another learn and grow.  We encourage questions and answers from everyone will be appreciated.

Please write what has been the biggest reason you have not started your blog yet in the comment section of this post.

For me,  the most difficult parts have been:

  1. What will I write about
  2. how to get a domain
  3. hosting
  4. how much will everything cost?

When you’re writing/vlogging, think about who your audience is.  For example, Is it the student painters, the professional painters, or potential buyers for your paintings?  Maybe you just want to have a place to write about what you love and find like minded individuals that love the same things as you.

Blogging and Vlogging’s main goals are to connect you the writer(the painter) with your audience to create a community of individuals.  What can you give back to the community?  How will they help you better your life?
